Bar Rack – R1
Bar Rack – R1
The Bar Rack – R1 by Alex Athletics provides professional, horizontal storage for 8 barbells. Its free-standing, double-sided A-frame design allows for easy access from both sides, making it ideal for central floor placement. Built from heavy-duty steel, it safely holds standard Olympic bars as well as awkward specialty bars that don’t fit in vertical racks. With protective hooks to save your knurling and no wall installation required, it is the versatile, ergonomic solution for organizing a serious barbell collection.
Horizontal Accessibility: The Dual-Sided Bar Rack (R1)
For facilities with extensive wall space or those who prefer the ease of horizontal access, the Bar Rack – R1 is the premium storage choice. Unlike vertical tubes where you have to lift the bar straight up, this rack allows you to rack and unrack bars horizontally, similar to a gun rack. This “side-loading” design is often easier for shorter athletes or for heavier specialty bars. The R1 is a free-standing, double-sided unit capable of holding 8 bars (4 on each side) in a secure, organized manner. This dual-sided access makes it perfect for placing in the middle of a room or between lifting platforms, allowing multiple athletes to grab bars simultaneously without congestion.
Durability is the core of the R1’s design. Constructed from heavy-gauge square steel tubing (50 x 75 x 3mm), it is a tank. The frame is rigid and stable, designed to hold not just standard Olympic bars but also heavy specialty bars like Safety Squat Bars or Cambered Bars that might not fit in vertical holders. The hooks are lined with protective material (typically plastic or rubber inserts) to ensure that the knurling of your bars is never metal-on-metal. With a height of nearly 1.6 meters, it displays your collection prominently, turning your equipment into a visual feature of the gym. It requires no installation or bolting, offering immediate, high-capacity organization.
1. Easy Horizontal Access
Lifting a 20kg bar vertically out of a tube can be difficult for some users, especially if ceilings are low. The horizontal design allows you to lift the bar off the hooks effortlessly. It is the most ergonomic way to access heavy equipment. The tiered spacing ensures there is enough room between bars to grab them without pinching fingers.
2. Double-Sided High Capacity
Storing 8 bars in one unit is efficient. The A-frame design utilizes both sides, doubling the storage density. This makes it ideal for dividing workout zones or creating a central “barbell library” in a large facility. It keeps the gym floor clear and safe.
3. Fits Specialty Bars
Vertical racks struggle with specialty bars that have thick pads or weird geometries (like Trap Bars or SSBs). The horizontal hooks of the R1 accommodate almost any bar shape. You can hang a Swiss Bar or a Buffalo Bar securely, making it the most versatile rack for powerlifting gyms.
4. Heavy-Duty Free Standing Frame
No drilling required. The R1 is a substantial, free-standing unit. Its wide base and heavy steel construction (36kg net weight) ensure it won’t tip over. It is ready to use immediately after assembly and can be moved if your gym layout changes.
5. Knurl Protection
The contact points are designed to protect your bars. By resting the shaft (or sleeve inner) on the hooks, the aggressive knurling is kept safe from grinding against other metal surfaces. This preserves the “bite” of your competition bars and keeps them looking pristine.
Who is this for?
- Powerlifting gyms with many specialty bars.
- Commercial facilities wanting a central island rack.
- Users with low ceilings where vertical storage is impossible.
- Athletes who find vertical racks difficult to use.
- Gym owners showcasing a premium bar collection.
